Our small 2-adult 1-dog family just enjoyed a lovely impromptu overnight stay on Grant Island in Stabbin’ Cabin 1 Bungalow and we had such a nice time. The experience itself is a rustic whimsical adventure that for us was a nostalgic and perfect change of pace. The owner, JP, is incredibly helpful and warm and seemingly available at a moments notice with any issue great or small. We only needed to contact him once and he replied within 3 minutes and we knew he was always close by in the need of any assistance. Our dog was a welcomed presence from the first moment and so were we. The accommodations were thoughtfully done and with incredible attention to detail making sure anything and everything you would commonly need was within reach. Easy QR codes were available to connect to the WiFi and to direct us to dining and delivery options. This place is perfect for any family seeking to experience an old-school Adirondacks getaway with kind and warm vibes and the ability to bring your dog(s) and enjoy connecting more to nature and simpler times. If you’re not an outdoorsy type person, this experience may prove too woodsy and rustic for you, so that would be my only advice for that sort of person. Each accommodation on Grant island is a bespoke and whimsical setting. The decorating and variety of activities and items at hand shows such a level of attention which stood out to us. After sun set, the island takes on a magical and beautiful appearance. The pathway lights are found all over and illuminate the wooded spaces in truly a stunning way. We enjoyed traipsing around the grounds taking photos of the stairs, woods and walkways because with the amber glow of the lights it takes on a whole new dimension. Truly beautiful to take in while you’re enjoying time with one another. When we went I think all the individual accommodations were booked, but most often we felt like we had the island to ourselves. It felt like we never had to interact with other families/guests unless we wanted to. We are so looking forward to booking our next booking when we can go again on vacation Angel and perhaps bringing along some more family

After spending a weekend getaway on a secluded island, our experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Arriving by boat added an adventurous touch to our journey, setting the tone for a truly unique escape. The cabin we stayed in, Stabin Cabin #2, was impeccably furnished, providing comfort and a cozy atmosphere. The island itself exuded tranquility, offering the perfect sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Being by the water was incredibly soothing, allowing us to unwind completely for the weekend. Despite it not yet being peak summer, we were blessed with beautiful weather throughout our stay. JP’s Island is one of the rare spots on the lake that enjoys sunshine all afternoon and until the sunset, adding to the charm of our experience. One of the highlights was the campfires we enjoyed both evenings. JP provided everything we needed (except the camp wood we found on our way), including grills, making it easy for us to cook our meals over an open fire. Lounging in hammocks and exploring the surroundings by canoe added a sense of adventure and relaxation to our days. JP was exceptionally accommodating, attending to all our needs promptly and ensuring we had everything necessary for a memorable stay. We particularly enjoyed connecting with Jane, JP's mother, who shared captivating stories about the island's history. Overall, our weekend on JP Island was unforgettable, blending adventure, relaxation, and genuine hospitality. It's a place we'll cherish in our memories and eagerly anticipate returning to in the future.

If you're looking for a unique, fun and very relaxing place to stay, you've found it! We stayed in the main cabin in September 2025 and were thrilled with its rustic charm. We enjoyed so many activities both on the island and in the surrounding area which felt like a nostalgic step back in time. We really loved using the included boat to get to and from the island, for fishing, and to position ourselves for perfect sunsets on the lake. We also loved using the kayaks. The private dock was ideal for sunrises, stargazing at night, more fishing, book reading, campfires, and complete relaxation. The cabin was cute but spacious and had everything we needed. The old-school nintendo with all the games was a lot of unexpected fun. Almost forgot the hottub and hammocks - fantastic! We also recommend renting the ATVs for a full day of exploring tons of rugged trails and pitstops for a bite to eat and some beautiful waterfalls. John was so easy to work with and quickly addressed any questions we had. We really looked forward to this trip as a family of four (all now adults) for a long time and it truly exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend Grant Island!

Our trip to this little private island was so amazing. The host was perfect and has really done a great job with this island. He was very friendly, informative and helpful. We let him know when we were close and he showed up right on time to pick us up. He helped load everything into the boat and was very friendly with our dog. He told us a little about himself and the area while heading to the island and helped us offload everything when we got there. After a quick tour of the island we were left to enjoy the weekend to ourselves. The host made it very clear that if we needed anything to please reach out, but everything was so well done we really didn't need him. It was amazing! We stayed at the stabbin cabin 2 and the yurt between 4 adults and a dog. Both cabins were cozy and we would stay in either again. The cabins are nice and private even being on such a small island. The stabbin cabin 2 has a private balcony/deck off the back that looks out towards the water. We enjoyed spending a lot of time out there enjoying the nature and smoking since this place is very 420 friendly. The yurt had an even bigger deck that looked out to the water as well. It also had its own private dock and a little motor boat to get you to and from the mainland or just to ride around the lake. The stabbin cabin 2 had a boat included as well, however it is shared with another cabin which was occupied during our stay. We would have zero issues sharing but decided to let the other guests know that we had access to the yurt boat so the other was all theirs. Speaking of the other guests... that is another amazing thing about this place. This island is 420 and dog friendly and in the ADKs, that is going to bring a certain crowd, and boy did it. We were so lucky to have shared this island with some amazing guests who loved our company and loved our dog. While we all did our own things during the day, at night everyone ends up at the fire and it was a blast. Good company, good conversation, good food and weed, what could be better? The morning we had to leave went very smoothly. Since everything it set up so well we didn't have to bring too much so pack up was a lot easier than our typical tent trips. We had received check out information and had the option of getting a ride back to the mainland or using the included boats to do it ourselves. We enjoyed using the boat so did it ourselves and it was a fun way to end the trip. We were going to make 2 trips since we had 4 adults and a small boat, but our second trip didn't happen after reaching out to the host about booking again and he offered a ride out. We loaded the last of our stuff onto his boat and talked about our options on the way back. We can't wait to come back and hope to check out some other properties of this hosts in the future. Highly recommend!

What an absolutely amazing experience! For 52 years, my family has been coming each summer to Braningham Lake and we have stayed in many, many places around the lake. This was by far the best experience we’ve had because of the unique and special nature of staying on Grant Island in the main house. It Was incredibly relaxing to wake up in the morning and relax in the hammocks around the island while everyone else was getting up. The Main house was perfect for our crew and had everything we needed for the week. The House included the use of a pontoon boat, which allowed us to get around the lake whenever needed from our private dock and beach. John Paul was a fantastic host and jumped on any of our requests over the week as soon as asked. The giant rope swing was a blast for the kiddos!! We can’t wait to go back to Grant Island again.

Had a great time at Grant Island with friends and John was a good host. The cottage was rustic and comfortable. The property was nice to hike with some rugged terrain. Be prepared to carry what you need up steps and along a trail with some exposed tree roots. Our dog enjoyed wandering and the neighbors didn't mind. We appreciated the opportunity to have this unique experience and hope to visit again.

JP was a great host and was very friendly and accommodating! Our stay was amazing and a great place to get a reset from every day life. The view was beautiful and we loved getting on the boat and going for a ride. Our place was clean and comfy; the projector was a nice touch to relax inside and watch Netflix. The area is dog friendly and our dog had a great time exploring the island. Overall, it was a 5 star stay and we highly recommend!
